What This Site Is

Pips Hint exists to help players of the NYT Pips logic puzzle get better at the game. Instead of just handing out finished boards, we publish solving strategy, a step-by-step how-to-play guide, a daily answer archive where every board comes with its own data-driven solving notes, and an interactive solver you can run in your browser.

Pips is the logic puzzle from The New York Times Games in which you place a complete set of unique dominoes onto a grid so that every coloured region satisfies its printed condition (an exact sum, a lower or upper bound, or an equality). We cover it because it deserves a proper strategy resource — it is still new compared with games like Wordle or Connections, and most existing coverage is either a bare answer dump or a paywalled walkthrough.

How Our Answers Are Produced

Every board on this site is produced by our own open solver. Each day we fetch the published puzzle layout, run the solver against it, and render the completed board as an image. That means:

• The answer images are generated, not screenshotted or scraped from other sites.
• Archive pages are enriched with facts computed from the real board data — domino counts, region conditions, and tightest targets — so each day's page contains original analysis rather than a bare image.
• If the daily puzzle has not been published yet (or the fetch fails), the site says so honestly instead of showing stale content labelled as today.

Our Editorial Standards

• Original content: all guides, tips, and solving notes are written and computed for this site.
• Honest labels: pages always state which date's boards they show. We never present old data as today's puzzle.
• Play-first design: answers are hidden behind a reveal button, so you can attempt the puzzle before comparing against the solution.
• Independence: Pips Hint is not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by The New York Times Company. All original content on this site is our own.
